Wake Forest Baptist’s GLP-compliant Large Animal Surgical Suite
Preclinical Translational Services ensures optimal conduct of industry-sponsored and contract preclinical research studies. The service adds distinct value to studies by giving industry access to a scalable team of expert veterinarian clinicians and surgeons and highly trained technical staff who partner with Wake Forest Baptist’s renowned faculty to conduct industry-compliant preclinical surgical protocols.
Led by its director, Susan Appt, DVM, Associate Professor of Comparative Medicine / Pathology, Preclinical Translational Services complements the extensive experience and institutional facilities available at Wake Forest Baptist for industry clients.
Our Associate Surgical Research Veterinarian, Dr. Deloid, has surgical expertise in a wide variety of animal models including nonhuman primates, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits and more. She also has experience in study design, industry studies and serves on the Wake Forest IACUC.
Preclinical Translational Services has qualified technical staff with greater than 30 years combined experience in research, surgery, anesthesia, imaging, cardiovascular training labs and much more. Our large-animal surgical services are located in a facility compliant with U.S. Food and Drug Administration CRF Part 58 (Good Laboratory Practices [GLP]) regulations for nonclinical animal studies. The large animal surgical suite is located on the world renowned Clarkson Campus, a complex with state-of-the-art laboratories and other facilities located on a 200-acre tract in a rural setting.
